MCV’s EXCITING JOURNEY IN BANKING

M.C.V.Rajanathan, is a Banker by Profession, with close upon 46 years of uninterrupted and unblemished Banking exposure which he considers as his greatest achievement and asset.Mr. Rajanathan, joined the Hatton National Bank, HNB, as it is known today in 1973 during the infancy of this Bank and was attached to HNB, for almost 30 years up to his retirement in 2002, consequent to the acceptance of a Voluntary retirement scheme offered by the Bank. He is well known by the alphabets MCV, among his colleagues and the Banking community which greatly values his contribution to the Banking industry.

After his retirement with HNB, he continued with his journey in Banking and was attached to the Ceylinco Savings Bank, Pan Asia Bank, Union Bank of Colombo and Amana Bank towards sharing his valuable experience in the field of Banking, especially in the field of Credit Administration which is his specialized field of Banking. He was instrumental in setting up the Credit Administration Divisions of the aforesaid Banks which were late entrants to the Banking industry. 

Thereafter he joined the Cargills Bank, one of the latest entrant to the Banking industry as the Head of the Training and Development arm of the Bank. He was instrumental in setting up the Training Divsion of the Bank and conducted numerous Training programs for the resources of the Bank. He retired from Cargills Bank in October,2019. However he continues with his journey in Banking as a much sought after Resource persön and is attached to the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and the Centre for Banking Studies, Central Bank of Sri Lanka as one of their Senior Lecturer.

He is a much sought after Resource personality covering the area of “Securities for Bank Lending" its Operations & Management, Letters of Guarantee, Remedial Management etc. His expertise is sought by various Banks and financial institutions. He is a Lecturer with a very high rate of acceptance. He considers sharing his "knowledge Bank" as a passion.


Mr.Rajanathan has immensely contributed to the Banking industry and takes pride in having trained a vast amount of Bankers covering the area of Securities for Bank Lending and its Operational aspects towards ensuring all aspects of the risk and its mitigation process are adhered to by the Bankers of today towards safeguarding the interest of the Institution.

He has written several articles covering his specialized area of Banking. His  publication Techniques of Securities for Bank Lending with an Insight to Life & Times of a Banker" was released on 4th October, 2017. All sale proceeds of this publication goes to the Sri Lanka Cancer Society towards a worthy cause.

This publication covers with a practical approach of all important aspects related to Securities for Bank Lending in relation to Bank lending, its operational aspects, mitigation Techniques etc., as Securities is an important component of Credit.In addition, he feels Bankers of today, with the advanced Technology, are blessed with all the luxury which the Bankers of yesteryear were not privileged to enjoy, hence he gives an insight to the difficult journey he and every Senior Banker of yesteryear went through. This is being shared with the present generation of Bankers to give them an insight to the difficulties the yesteryear bankers went through and the luxury the present Bankers enjoy.

He has undergone training in Credit Management at the National Institute of Bank Management, Pune, India and Trade Finance at the Vereins-und West Bank, Hamburg, Germany, in addition to numerous Training programs locally.

His journey in Banking is an interesting Chapter of his life in which he has been successful in meeting many challenges.
